About Minnesota Reading Corps
Minnesota Reading Corps launched in 2003,
serving preschool children in four Head Start agencies. The early results
showed the program model was effective. The program quickly expanded to serve
children age 3–grade 3 in many more locations throughout Minnesota.
Minnesota Reading Corps has grown each year to
become one of the largest national AmeriCorps program in the country. Since
2003, Minnesota Reading Corps has provided early intervention services to over
125,000 age 3 – grade 3 students. Annually, Minnesota Reading Corps reaches
approximately 30,000 students.
Program Overview
Nearly one in three 3rd graders in Minnesota is failing to
reach basic levels of literacy. You can help change that. As a Minnesota
Reading Corps literacy tutor, you can help change this statistic and the lives
of struggling readers. As the nation’s largest state AmeriCorps program, we are
recognized because our tutors are getting results with the students they serve
and are helping to ensure that all children are successful readers by the end
of third grade.
Tutors commit to a year of AmeriCorps service,
receive rigorous training and ongoing support throughout the year from literacy
coaches, and use assessments to ensure their efforts produce the desired
results - helping children achieve grade-level reading proficiency.

About Minnesota Math Corps
State exam results show
40 percent of Minnesota eighth graders do not demonstrate grade-level
proficiency in math. Minnesota Math Corps provides a solution to help students
become successful 21st century learners and to narrow achievement
gaps. The program places trained AmeriCorps tutors in Minnesota schools to
deliver research-based math strategies that help students in grades four
through eight build the skills needed to succeed in math
Minnesota Math Corps started in 2007 in the St.
Cloud School District in partnership with St. Cloud State University. Math
Corps has expanded into new sites each year, with more than 100 tutors
currently serving in more than 100 sites statewide.
Minnesota Math Corps continues to grow its base
of tutors and students every year. Since 2007, Math Corps has reached nearly
20,000 students by training and placing much-needed tutors in schools across
Minnesota. The program has plans to place more than 200 tutors in over 200
elementary, middle and junior high schools during the 2017-2018 school year.
